Tim is Young Adults Pastor at Hope Valley Uniting Church and the SA Director of FORGE. Tim has ministry experience in many contexts including a large pentecostal church, a new church plant, schools seminar ministry, a significant young adults ministry, as well as inner-city marginal contexts including 6 years at St Martin’s Community Church in Melbourne (God's Squad Church). He also assisted in the establishment of East, part of the Red Network missional churches in Melbourne. He was also previously on Faculty at Tabor College Victoria co-ordinating the yearintheson and Recharge programs. Tim speaks and preaches regularly around Australia especially on discipleship and mission to young adults. He is extremely passionate about relevant, biblical mission and ministry to our popular culture. He loves films, music and a good conversation over an Indian meal.

There is a missing generation in the church. Statistics show that the least represented age in church is young people in their 20's, and yet teenagers are near the highest. So why do they leave? And what can we do to reframe and deepen the faith journey in young adults? This session will explain a model of discipleship and growth that fully embraces what it means to be a young adult in our current culture.

As a long term participant in the Emerging Church conversation, and as SA Director of Forge, Tim is well placed to lead this workshop. This session outlines the history of this movement, its effects, mistakes, influences, and recent thinking and activity. He also looks to the future and explores the possibilities for the church in the west, and how emerging forms of church can grow and operate as part of a diverse, interlinked, missional body with the established church, rather than a reactionary huddle.

Many reports indicate that one of the hardest people group to evangelise are westerners in their 20's. This session explores why this may be the case, and offers some models of engagement and possibilities, as well as stories. This session builds on 'Herding Cats' or can be understood separately.
